My Paysafe: A Week in the Life of Irene Khondaker

Irene is a Learning Design and Delivery Specialist for Income Access, based in Montreal.

Is there a typical day or week for you at Paysafe?

It all depends on what is happening that day or week. I work in the Knowledge and Process team at Income Access. Our team is responsible for identifying business processes, documenting, training, and reporting. So, our day-to-day can be different based on what is taking place in the business.

Specifically, I am responsible for the new hire onboarding process at Income Access. This involves planning for any new joiner’s first week with us, which includes working with the hiring manager to create a training calendar, a learning plan, and ensuring that the employee is well supported throughout the process. I also manage projects related to creating e-learning modules that will be used internally and externally. My time is also dedicated to creating, facilitating, or co-facilitating various trainings that take place in the company, including any new process, feature, or product trainings.

What motivated you to join Paysafe?

A number of things influenced my decision to join Paysafe. First and foremost, the leaders that I was directly and indirectly going to be reporting into were a big initial attraction, and ultimately the reason why I joined. When I was considering taking this role, Income Access had won a Bronze Stevie Award for Women-Run Workplace, and the year before the GM and SVP Tara Wilson (now COO) was awarded Silver for Female Executive of the Year. To me, this demonstrated the company’s dedication to diversity and inclusion at all levels.

Moreover, I was intrigued by the vison and goals of the team I would eventually join. When I learned about what they were trying to accomplish with regards to training, I knew that this was something I wanted to be a part of.

What surprised you when you first came to work at Paysafe?

I was very impressed with the talent pool at Paysafe. Everyone I met was highly skilled, knowledgeable, and subject matter experts in their respective fields. Quite frankly, this can be extremely intimidating. What surprised me was each and every one of those individual’s willingness to help and support where they could.

Kindness, compassion, and care, coupled with hard working people, makes for a great working environment where we can all trust and rely on each other.

What do you think about diversity and inclusion at Paysafe?

As I already eluded to, representation is important to me. But of course, it doesn’t just stop there. Diversity without the inclusion simply does not work. I believe that Paysafe has done a good job of creating a culture that embraces both. Through various initiatives, employees are empowered to express themselves without fear, and are also given a platform to learn more about the importance of this subject. Harboring a ‘safe’ environment is crucial to the success of a D&I program. Something that really resonated with me was a podcast dedicated to race in the workplace, among other topics. I appreciate the commitment and ongoing open dialogue that is happening here. Paysafe is inclusive and respects employees regardless of their age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, physical conditions, cultural background, or country of origin.

Is work-life balance important to you?

Work-life balance is important to me, especially since I have decided to go back to school and pursue a certificate in Applied Marketing. Being at a company that values this type of balance has allowed me to accomplish things both outside and inside my professional life. With a global pandemic and lockdowns in place, separating work and life can be challenging, but great efforts have been made to ensure employees are maintain that balance.

How do you stay informed about what is happening at the company?

There are a variety of ways to stay up to date with the company, such internal mailers, webinars and townhalls with the executive team, as well as daily, weekly, or monthly check-ins with our team and managers. There are also Q&A sessions where employees are encouraged to ask questions, along with communication platforms where we can post thoughts, ideas, and general feedback. Surveys are also sent out to keep a pulse on how employees are doing.

Are you involved in any of Paysafe’s Community & Environment or Diversity & Inclusion initiatives?

Yes, I am part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee (Canada) at Paysafe. We are a team dedicated to supporting our local communities and charities around three broad themes: education, health, and children. We actively look for organizations or charities where we can contribute by donating or volunteering our time and resources. I encourage all employees to share causes that are close to their hearts, and then bring them forward to the committee. I also find organizations through my own research.
