The rise of alternative payment methods (APMs)
As digital adoption surges across Latin America, players increasingly seek convenient, seamless ways to fund their betting accounts and cash out winnings. While debit cards remain a core payment method, the popularity of alternative payment methods (APMs) is on the rise, particularly eCash and digital wallets. According to All the Ways Players Pay 2025, more than 75% of bettors in Latin America plan to increase their use of APMs over the next two years, a clear indicator of their growing influence on the iGaming ecosystem.
In Colombia, 30% of players favor eCash solutions, signaling the region’s push towards more financially inclusive payment methods. Similarly, Ecuador (24%) and Peru (19%) stand out for their preference for localized payment options. These statistics highlight the increasing demand for diverse payment solutions and the need for sportsbooks to adapt by offering a broad range of methods.
Speed matters
Fast and seamless transactions have become crucial for players in Latin America. A significant 37% of Argentinian bettors and 32% of Peruvian players prioritize quick payouts when selecting an operator. This trend mirrors global player preferences, with 34% of global players choosing sportsbooks based on fast and easy payouts.
A significant majority of Latin American bettors (over 80%) expect real-time payments to become more common in the next two years. This growing demand for speed underscores its importance in enhancing the player experience, with operators offering faster, more efficient transactions to attract and retain bettors in the region.
Building trust in digital transactions
In a region where financial skepticism remains high, privacy and security influence player behavior significantly. Our research shows that 84% of Peruvian bettors, 83% of Ecuadorean players, and 81% of Mexican bettors consider anonymity essential when choosing a sportsbook. For operators, offering secure payment methods alongside clear, transparent data privacy policies will be critical in building and maintaining long-term trust with players.
Moreover, security is a top priority for players across the region when it comes to making deposits. 51% of Argentinian and 48% of Peruvian players ranked security as the most critical factor when depositing funds into their accounts. Ensuring robust, secure payment solutions is not just a regulatory requirement but a crucial aspect of cultivating a positive player experience and boosting engagement.
Looking ahead
As Latin America continues to evolve into one of the most dynamic betting regions in the world, the role of payment solutions in shaping this transformation will only grow more pronounced. Operators will succeed by offering localized payments, prioritizing speed, and ensuring secure, transparent transactions.
Players across Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru are increasingly embracing digital wallets and eCash, and sportsbooks that adapt to these trends will enjoy a competitive advantage in the region.
