My Career Journey with Jose Louis Borja Castellano

Aug 08, 2022

This month we catch up with Jose Louis Borja Castellano a Trainee in Vienna to talk through his career and life at Paysafe.

For you, is there a typical day or week at Paysafe?

In my case, every month is different when it comes to everyday tasks, because I rotate to different departments as part of the trainee programme. Most recently I have been working on an exciting new project for the upcoming launch of a new solution which we can’t reveal more details about just yet, but it’s been very interesting to be involved in a product launch from such an early stage.

What has surprised you about working at Paysafe?

My expectations as I started to work at Paysafe were quite high and positive. Paysafe has reached my expectations and more with its flawless new joiner integration process that has allowed me to learn more than I thought I would, at a pace that is healthy for newcomers.

What initially motivated you to join Paysafe? Please talk about how long you have been with the company, what inspired you to pursue a career here

Before I even started to work for Paysafe, I heard countless great things about the company culture and how dynamic the working environment is for people who would like to kick-start their career. When I saw the opportunity to be part of the traineeship programme at Paysafe, I had no doubts that this was going to be the right direction for me.

If you compare your previous experience as a founder of your own business and now as a Trainee, what are the main differences?

As someone who has experience of management and building a brand, I feel like the general work distribution is the biggest difference. As a founder of a newly built business, you need to take on more responsibilities than most can handle, but as a trainee within part of a bigger entity, you get to practice team-based skills on a day-to-day basis.

What advice can you give to future Paysafe Trainees?

I would recommend that they are as open to new information and change as possible, considering they will get to work with multiple departments, which fundamentally brings a fast-paced learning environment.

What do you think about diversity and inclusion at Paysafe?

As a member of many minority groups, I feel like Paysafe provides an ultimate safe place for its internal stakeholders at a level that it makes employees feel like their differences are celebrated.

How did you find having to work from home as opposed to working from the office? Would you explore this opportunity in the future if given the opportunity?

Starting out in a home office was quite challenging considering that I was rotating between departments within a fast-paced learning environment without being physically present, but the more I adjusted to the pace, the easier it has gotten for me. I personally believe home office can be a quite useful tool if balanced successfully. Working from the office and absorbing the corporate culture has been quite healthy overall for my experience too, and it has been great to spend time and connect with my colleagues in person.

Describe Paysafe with 3 words

Diverse, energetic, empowering.

You should come to work at Paysafe, because…

There are not many companies in the world that allow you to grow individually while you grow to be a part of the company. The entire company culture is ever-growing and welcoming. Paysafe is a great place to build your career and a safe space all its workers out there.
