Mexican actor Diego Boneta becomes face of Skrill Money Transfer in US

Sep 28, 2021

Star of Netflix’s ‘Luis Miguel: The Series’ to appear in first U.S. campaign promoting Skrill USA’s international money transfer service

Houston, Texas Paysafe (NYSE: PSFE), a leading specialized payments platform, today revealed that the Skrill USA digital wallet has partnered with TV and movie icon Diego Boneta, who becomes the first U.S. brand ambassador for Skrill Money Transfer. The Mexican-born star of Netflix’s hit Spanish-language musical biopic Luis Miguel: The Series will represent the zero-fee[1] international money transfer service in an exciting upcoming TV, social media and PR campaign showcasing the importance of family and staying connected.

Skrill USA’s partnership with the 30-year-old Boneta, who is set to return for a third season of Netflix’s original production Luis Miguel: The Series, follows the U.S. launch of Skrill Money Transfer in 2020. The digital wallet’s transfer service allows customers across the continental U.S. to easily send funds to friends and family overseas, including to Boneta’s native Mexico as well as Spain, Portugal, and 25 other Asian and European countries.

Holding a 4.7 or ‘excellent’ rating on Trustpilot, Skrill Money Transfer is renowned for its user friendliness. The strong UX is highlighted in the TV commercial at the heart of the new campaign, which features Boneta along with his sister, brother and adopted dog Akila Cabrona.

Boneta, who holds U.S. and Mexican citizenship, will broaden the reach of the Skrill Money Transfer service, with Mexico the top destination for U.S. remittances. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a record $40.6bn was sent to Mexico in 2020, according to the country’s central bank.

Boneta’s stardom in Mexico and the U.S. has continued to rise with his ongoing role as Grammy award-winning Mexican pop legend Luis Miguel as well as the release this summer of his latest film, Die in a Gunfight. His two-decade acting career also includes the lead in 2012 glam-metal musical comedy Rock of Ages and a supporting role in 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.

Boneta commented: “I’m excited to represent the innovative Skrill Money Transfer solution, which helps family and friends to connect across borders. Sending money to Mexico and other countries shouldn’t be as complicated as it is. I’m looking forward to telling the U.S. Mexican community all about Skrill Money Transfer, with its zero send fees when using a bank or debit card and market-leading exchange rates to make sure more money arrives in the hands of loved ones in Mexico.”

Paul Jardon, CEO and CFO of Skrill USA, Inc., said: “Skrill Money Transfer has proven very popular in the U.S., with its large communities of expats and new Americans. With Diego Boneta, a truly international and borderless star, as our new ambassador, we look forward to raising brand awareness to allow even more consumers to tap into the value of our remittance solution.”
