Why Collaborating with Universities is Important for Paysafe

At Paysafe, we believe the future of fintech depends not only on cutting-edge technology but also on the people who create and drive it. That’s why investing in young talent is a core part of our strategy. For us, it’s not just about today’s roles – it’s about shaping the leaders who will define the industry tomorrow.

One of the ways we make this vision a reality is through strong partnerships with universities. These collaborations go far beyond recruitment. They represent a long-term investment in innovation, diversity of thought, and the future of our industry.

All of these initiatives come together under Paysafe Academy: The Future of Fintech – our dedicated program that unites internships, student projects, and partnerships with academia to inspire and develop the next generation of fintech talent.

To explore why these partnerships matter, we spoke with Simona Mihaylova, Senior Talent Acquisition Partner at Paysafe, who has been closely involved in building these initiatives.

Building Future Leaders

For Simona, engaging with universities is much more than a talent pipeline – it’s about shaping the industry together.

“University partnerships are key to Paysafe’s long-term strategy – they help us connect with budding fintech talent early and foster innovation through fresh perspectives. For us, it’s not just about hiring, it’s about building the future.”

Through internships, scholarships, and mentoring initiatives, Paysafe offers students the chance to work on real business challenges. Many of these experiences evolve into full-time roles, giving young professionals the opportunity to start their careers in fintech while aligning with the company’s culture and values.

Innovation Through Fresh Perspectives

Young professionals bring qualities that are invaluable in a fast-moving industry: curiosity, adaptability, and energy.

“Their curiosity and adaptability help us challenge assumptions and stay ahead,” Simona explains.

A strong example of this exchange of ideas is the annual Fintech Challenge, co-organized with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University. Now in its fourth year, the program allows students to tackle real-world case studies in areas such as AI, compliance, and digital identity.

“At the end of the program, students present their solutions in our office. Many of their ideas spark valuable discussions internally and even influence how we approach innovation. And it’s not just the students who benefit – our mentors gain fresh perspectives as well.”

Bridging Universities and Business

For universities, these collaborations also bring tangible value – enriching their programs with practical fintech insights and closer ties to the industry.

“Universities gain by strengthening their reputation and improving graduate employability through engaging, hands-on initiatives,” says Simona.

By bridging the gap between theory and practice, Paysafe helps students apply academic knowledge in real business environments, giving them a head start as they prepare to launch their careers.

A Personal Motivation

Beyond the strategic benefits, what excites Simona most is the energy of working with students.

“Their energy, curiosity, and fresh perspectives are truly inspiring. It’s rewarding to support their growth while also gaining insights from their unique outlook on the future of work.”

The highlight for her is always the final stage of the Fintech Challenge:

“Each year, I’m impressed not only by the creativity of the students but also by the strong team spirit they demonstrate. Even without much professional experience, they already understand how crucial collaboration is to achieving success.”

For Simona, being involved in these initiatives adds a unique dimension to her role as a Talent Acquisition Partner.

“Beyond hiring, I have the opportunity to shape how we engage with future talent and build a pipeline that reflects our values and long-term vision. Personally, it’s incredibly motivating.”

These partnerships bring value to students, universities, and the company alike, while ensuring the future of the industry remains bright, bold, and full of fresh ideas.
