Paysafe to partner inaugural Barbarians women’s team

Oct 10, 2017

The famous invitation club founded in 1890 becomes twice as exciting when the women’s side makes its debut in November 2017

LONDON, 10 October, 2017 – Paysafe Group plc (PAYS.L), a leading global payments provider based in the UK, is delighted to announce its partnership with the inaugural Barbarians (“The Baa-Baas”) women’s rugby team. This follows Paysafe’s recently announced partnership with the Barbarians men’s team in aid of Help for Heroes.

The Barbarians women’s team will play its first ever game against Munster at Thomond Park on 10 November, fielding a team of world class players representing seven nations. England World Cup winner Giselle Mather will coach the team in the first of a number of matches planned for the 2017-18 season. Managed by Fiona Stockley, the Barbarians will play against club, provincial and international sides with a full schedule to be confirmed later this year.

Abi Chamberlain, Head of Leadership Development at Paysafe and former England women’s rugby player, said: “The recent Women’s Rugby World Cup demonstrated just how popular the women’s game has become. I was absolutely thrilled to see England progress to the final and provide such a great spectacle.  Paysafe has enjoyed a long-standing affiliation with the Barbarians and are honoured to be able to support the women’s team for their history making November debut.  These games will help raise the visibility and increase the impact of women’s sport, especially in rugby which has increased in popularity over the last few years.”

Paysafe’s partnership with the Barbarians celebrates its relationship with Help for Heroes.  Help for Heroes, a leading charity that enjoys close affiliations with rugby, empowers Service Personnel and Military Veterans with life-changing injuries and illnesses to reach their full potential. The Armed Forces are highly trained, selfless, courageous and focused people, and Help for Heroes believes that those prepared to put their lives second deserve a second chance at life.

The launch of the Barbarians women’s team is supported by the Women’s Sport Trust, the UK charity using the power of sport to accelerate gender equality.

About the Barbarians

The Barbarians are the world’s most famous rugby club, bringing together great players to play club and international teams since 1890. The Barbarians unique style of adventure and enjoyment was encapsulated in the famous win over New Zealand in 1973 — containing arguably the greatest try in the rugby history — and still its reputation endures today. Since 1948 the Barbarians have played 20 different national teams and in the last decade England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa have all been beaten. The club’s charitable arm, the Barbarians Trust, makes donations to good causes around the world.

About Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses while serving our country. This support is provided through grants direct to our Heroes and their families, grants to other charities and through four Recovery Centres across the UK. A recent study launched in January 2016 by King’s College London and Help for Heroes estimated that, of the 750,000 men and women who served as Regulars between 1991 and 2014, at least 66,000 might need long term support.
