Transformation starts with people: Empowering women to lead

In recognition of Women’s Month, Paysafe’s Chief Transformation Officer, Chi-Eun Lee, reflects on the role women play in driving meaningful change in modern organizations.

In honor of Women’s Month, I’ve taken time to reflect on the important role women play in driving meaningful change within modern organizations, including ours at Paysafe.

Organizations today are transforming at a pace few could have imagined a decade ago. New technologies, evolving customer expectations, and fierce global competition continue to reshape how companies operate. As Chief Transformation Officer, my role is to help Paysafe adapt to this changing landscape, remove friction from processes, enhance cross-functional collaboration, and ensure we are positioned to scale and innovate for the future.

But transformation is not just about systems or strategy. At its core, transformation is about people.

The most successful organizations recognize that meaningful change requires a diversity of perspectives. When leadership teams bring together different experiences, viewpoints, and problem‑solving styles, they become better equipped to challenge assumptions, identify opportunities, and navigate complexity-especially in fast‑moving industries like payments and fintech.

Strengthening transformation by empowering people

At Paysafe, inclusive leadership is a core strength. Today, 42% of our overall management and leadership team is female, and women represent 37.5% of our senior management team. We have also increased the diversity of our Board, with women now representing 25% of directors, and have seen improved inclusion scores in the employee survey. This progress is not accidental, as it is supported by intentional hiring practices, balanced candidate pools, and a commitment to creating equal opportunities at every stage of the talent pipeline.

One initiative I am proud to sponsor is Women@Paysafe, one of our most active internal networks, supported by a workforce that is approximately 50% women. The network creates meaningful connections across all levels and departments, helping colleagues build confidence, strengthen skills, and advance their careers.

Women@Paysafe provides a wide range of opportunities to learn, grow, and support one another:

  • Policy impact rooted in employee insight: In 2023, the network collaborated with our Families@Paysafe community and People Team to enhance parental leave, expand maternity and paternity support in the UK and Ireland, and influence updated policies in the U.S. and Bulgaria.
  • Support for women’s wellbeing: Most recently, the network contributed to the development of a Menopause Policy that embeds flexibility, wellbeing support, and manager guidance.
  • Masterclasses and skill‑building: In 2026, the network launched a multi‑session masterclass series on “Investing in Yourself,” covering storytelling, executive presence, navigating difficult conversations, and communicating with impact.
  • Networking and allyship: With nearly 450 network members, our events bring colleagues together, both virtually and in local offices, to share experiences and build relationships that help careers move forward.
  • Professional photoshoots: The network organizes professional portrait sessions (including in local languages/markets), helping colleagues feel confident, visible, and supported.
  • Speed mentoring: These fast‑paced sessions allow participants to connect with 5–6 mentors in a single event, fostering horizontal connections across departments and encouraging collaboration.
  • Spotlighting leaders: Whenever new senior executives or board members join Paysafe, the network provides a platform for them to share their experiences and career stories, inspiring women across the organization.
  • A true sense of sorority: Above all, Women@Paysafe is a community where colleagues consistently show up for one another, ready to listen, advise, and help.

Mentorship plays an essential role in helping women step into leadership roles. Throughout my career, from consulting to technology to payments, I’ve experienced firsthand how valuable it is to learn from others who have walked a similar path. Having someone who can offer guidance, encouragement, and an honest perspective makes a meaningful difference when navigating career decisions or stepping into new challenges.

For organizations undergoing transformation, these support networks are critical. Change can be complex and, at times, uncomfortable, but when people feel empowered and included, they’re more likely to take risks, share ideas, and contribute to the organization’s evolution.

For women pursuing leadership roles, my advice is simple: stay curious, seek opportunities that broaden your perspective, and explore different parts of the business. Many of the best insights come from understanding how the entire organization connects.

Equally important is investing in relationships. Collaboration sits at the center of modern leadership, and the ability to work across teams and perspectives is a powerful driver of successful transformation.

Finally, don’t hesitate to challenge the status quo. Transformation begins with those willing to ask new questions and reimagine what’s possible.

Shaping the future through inclusive, people‑driven leadership

As companies continue to evolve, leadership must evolve as well. Creating environments where diverse voices are heard, valued, and supported is not only the right thing to do. It’s essential for building resilient, future‑focused organizations.

At Paysafe, we remain committed to fostering a culture where people can grow, contribute, and help shape the future of our business. When we empower individuals, embrace diverse perspectives, and support the next generation of leaders, we create the foundation for lasting, meaningful transformation.

And ultimately, that is how real change happens.
