Supporting independent gas stations and C-stores with payments technology and industry associations

How Paysafe's specialized petro payments provider is deepening collaboration with North Dakota and Utah-based trade associations to strengthen member engagement and industry support.

In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the role of modern payments technology cannot be overstated when it comes to optimizing business efficiency and enhancing customer experiences. This is especially crucial for independently owned gas stations and convenience stores (C-stores) that rely on their community roots to drive revenue growth. However, navigating through the vast array of available solutions can often be a daunting and time-consuming task for these small businesses.

In this article, we’ll delve into the collaborative efforts between payment companies and trade associations to support the success of independent gas stations and C-stores. Through this lens, we’ll also shed light on how the industry is working together to provide the necessary support and resources that help to stimulate the growth and prosperity of small businesses in the retail petroleum sector.

Expanding partnerships for member support

Trade associations often boast extensive networks of independent business owners who are members or affiliated with them. Payment providers can capitalize on these networks by collaborating with the association to offer cost-saving benefits and tailored solutions to association members.

One such example is Petroleum Card Services (PCS), Paysafe’s specialized petro payments provider, which recently secured new endorsement deals with the North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association (NDPMA) and the Utah Petroleum Marketers & Retailers Association (UPMRA), earning the distinction as the preferred payments processor for the two organizations.

The newly expanded partnerships signify a shared commitment between PCS and the associations to empower small businesses in the retail petroleum industry through valuable educational resources and expert guidance on the latest payments technology that provides a competitive edge. Leveraging its deep understanding and industry expertise, PCS aims to alleviate concerns that may arise in the ever-changing business landscape, further enabling NDPMA and UPMRA members to focus on driving growth with confidence.

The collaborations will bring forth a range of exclusive programs and benefits for current and future association members. One notable program is the Encytro Advantage Program, which is designed to assist members in protecting their businesses should certain chargebacks occur. This added protection program ensures that NDPMA and UPMRA members can take advantage of financial incentives while safeguarding their businesses and customers.

In addition to this initiative, association members can benefit from special pricing on payment processing solutions offered by PCS. These tailored solutions are designed to address the unique needs of the retail petroleum industry, providing efficient and streamlined payment processing experiences. By offering these discounted solutions, association members can optimize their operations, enhance customer experiences, and reduce overall costs.

Building trust and credibility through collaboration

When strategic partnerships are formed between payment providers and trade associations that support an expansive network of independent business owners, a multitude of mutual benefits arise. One of the key advantages lies in the strong reputation and credibility that trade associations possess within their respective industries. Trade associations have a proven track record of being trusted authorities among their member bases and by aligning with these associations, payment providers gain an instant boost in credibility.

The endorsement of a trade association instills confidence in potential customers, assuring them that the preferred service provider adheres to industry standards and best practices. This stamp of approval significantly reduces skepticism and barriers to engagement. In turn, payment providers can leverage this reputation to establish trust and goodwill among members, thereby enhancing their own reputation and fostering increased client engagement.

Education and industry expertise

Strategic partnerships with trade associations not only provide financial benefits but also create valuable avenues for providers to engage in knowledge sharing and stay updated on industry trends. In line with this commitment, PCS recognizes the importance of fostering educational opportunities for association members, particularly in the face of rising costs and inflationary pressures. This understanding stems from the recognition that merchants in the petroleum space encounter unique challenges.

Through ongoing collaboration, PCS will work to contribute to the associations' educational missions, offering support in organizing trade-driven events, seminars, workshops, and interactive sessions with industry experts.

The recent endorsement deals with NDPMA and UPMRA exemplify the power of collaboration between payment companies and trade associations. These partnerships are designed to empower independent gas stations and C-stores, fostering their growth and success in the ever-evolving petroleum industry by providing educational support, exclusive programming, and valuable resources.

About North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association (NDPMA)

The North Dakota Petroleum Dealers and Jobbers were organized in the mid 1950’s by a group of petroleum marketers who realized there is strength in one collective voice.  This small but enthusiastic group grew in size and influence.  In 1989, this group of pioneers was reorganized and became known as the North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association.

Today, NDPMA represents over 400 petroleum marketers and associate members.  This list includes bulk oil jobbers, service station dealers, convenience stores and truck stops.  The associate members play a vital role in providing marketers with the tools and resources needed to succeed in this ever-changing industry.  A majority of NDPMA members are small business owners working to boost the state’s economy by providing over 10,000 jobs for area residents.
